Location: Skógar/Vík area, Southern Iceland

Time Required: 30 minutes (if you drive…considerably longer if you hike it)

Red Tape/Notes: Upper section of the peninsula is restricted to hikers during nesting season in the spring/summer (exact dates vary, but typically between early May and mid June).

One of the iconic sites from around Vik, the Dyrhólaey Arch is easy to view by driving out the peninsula, then taking the upper road to the Dyrhólaey lighthouse. The lighthouse is cool on its own, and you can hike around the lighthouse to the edge of the cliffs, where you’ll have nice views of the arch, and further in the distance, Reynisfjara and the Reynisdrangar. The lower road leads down to a beach, and a middle road leads to some interesting ruins and views of the coast. The whole area is very active for birds, and during the right season you can find puffins here.
