Distance: ~2 miles (roundtrip)

Elevation Gain: 400 feet (to Upper Emerald Pools)

Time Required: 1 hour

Red Tape/Notes: The park is open 24 hours a day; park passes are $30 per vehicle and are valid for 7 days. The trail is most easily accessed from the Zion Canyon Shuttle, stop #5 (Zion Lodge).

To be honest, I’d probably give this trail a miss unless you know the water flow is going to be fairly high and/or you’re traveling with small children or elderly family members. It’s a very pleasant trail – or collection of trails – that meander around a stream that causes the area to be lush with vegetation. The first portion of the trail passes under two walls waterfalls – we were here in April and they were barely a trickle/misting…it’s kind of a fun game to try and see the waterfall in my pictures below. The middle and upper pools sections take you onto the cliffs above the falls. It’s pleasant enough, but it won’t be life changing.
