June Lake is a quaint resort community, situated in a subalpine valley surrounded by high mountain peaks. The setting is extremely pretty, and it’s very popular as a summer home residence when the weather is cooler and more pleasant than some of the surrounding areas. It also sees activity in the winter, with the June Mountain Ski Area attracting visitors. But our favorite time to visit is in the fall. The June Lake Loop is one of the premier fall foliage locations for California, and it can be quite a show. It’s very pretty regardless, and has numerous great opportunities for photography, along with nice trout fishing and some lovely camping areas. It’s a nice place to stop if you’re driving to or from Yellowstone, if you’re doing some hiking or mountaineering in the Sierras, or if you’re just out hunting for fall colors.
