Location:  Jasper area, Jasper National Park, Alberta

Time Required: 2-3 hours

Red Tape/Notes: A one-time entry is $7.05 per adult; swimsuit and towel rentals are available for an additional fee. The springs are open early May to early October from around 10:30am to 9pm (with some variations depending on the specific dates). Food and drink are available at a café. Visit this website for additional details. Entry into Jasper requires a daily fee of about $10 per person (or ~$20 per family/group); alternatively, you can buy a Parks Canada Discovery Pass if you’re staying for an extended time.

What’s Nearby?: Pocahontas Coal Mine, Punch Bowl Falls, Sulphur Skyline Trail

This historic area features the hottest springs in the Canadian Rockies – the water is cooled to between 37°C and 40°C (that’s 98°F to 104°F for all the Americans). There are a couple of different pools with variations in temperature, including a cold plunge pool, all of which are basically square swimming pools. The first pools here, though, were built using logs (by miners in 1919) – it’s really neat to look at the historic photos in the entry lobby and see the early days of the springs. You can also walk a trail to see the ruins of the original pools and the source of the water.
