The walk to Purakaunui Falls will only take you about 5 minutes, and the falls are very pretty so it’s definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area. The trail is easy and the falls are well-known and much publicized, though, so don’t expect to have it to yourself. There are a couple of viewing platforms, but you can also eschew the platforms and go into the water if you’d like.

Fun fact: these falls were featured on a New Zealand postage stamp in 1976.
