The Rolous Temple Complex marks the beginning of the classical period for the Khmer civilization (dating from the late 9th century) and is composed of three major temples: Bakong, Preah Ko, and Lolei. Bakong is the largest of the temples, and is surrounded by a large moat, but Preah Ko and Lolei are nice in their own ways. The complex is 11 km (6.8 miles) southeast of Siem Reap, and are located several miles from the main Angkor Wat complex. This fact alone means that fewer people visit them, making them much more enjoyable than some of the overrun main Angkor sites. They also offer a style of architecture that’s different from the Angkor Wat complex sites, providing a nice infusion of variety during your tour of Siem Reap temples.
