Location: The Catlins, South Island, New Zealand

Time Required: 30 minutes

Red Tape/Notes: None.

What’s Nearby?: Curio Bay, Clifden Cave

This is the southern-most lighthouse on the South Island, and it’s a pretty scenic spot. So, if you like lighthouses, or you have nothing better to do, then you could do worse than stopping here. There are also numerous examples of the classic Catlins wind-swept trees. You can stop to appreciate them while likely experiencing some of that wind yourself. If it’s really windy, you can hide in the info kiosk which has been conveniently constructed as a wind shelter. Apparently, there are often sea lions on the beach if you want to have a look down there for them (although there weren’t any when we were there).
