We’re typically in Indio to play polo (if you’re in the area on a Sunday, it’s always fun to come and watch!), but this is also a great area for wildflowers in the spring. The drive into the Palm Desert/Indio area on the 74 (the Pines to Palms Highway) is pretty any time of year, but you can often see vibrant displays of wildflowers in the spring on either side of the road as you head down the mountain. If you drive north of town into the Coachella Valley Preserve, you can find fields of lupines with a backdrop of mountains (including Mount San Jacinto), and carpets of wildflowers in the washes; or drive east to Painted Canyon and Box Canyon, where you’ll find colorful rock formations any time of year (and wildflowers in the spring).
