Location: Pisgah National Forest, near Brevard, North Carolina

Time Required: The approach to the South Face takes 20 or 30 minutes via the Slickrock Falls Trail.

Red Tape/Notes: The always helpful Mountain Project has a list of available climbs on the South Face. There are also numerous other sections of Looking Glass Rock (which require different approaches than the Slickrock Falls trail) where more climbing can be found – visit the Mountain Project site for more information.

What’s Nearby?:  Triple FallsHooker Falls, Slickrock Falls

The South Face is a popular spot for beginners, and for good reason. The approach is pretty friendly and there are numerous easy climbs, starting at 5.5 and moving up with a large selection of 5.7 and 5.8 climbs. There are also a few harder climbs in the 5.10 range. We took our nieces here for their first outdoor climbing excursion and it was adorable.
